Character Genesis

A hundred XP and a city that wants it back. Creation steps, costs, and the two health pools that keep you on the board.

§1 Character Details

What are the steps that a player goes through when they create a new character? Start with the paperwork — the city loves paperwork.

RACE AFFILIATION (e.g. HAYASHI, BASTILLE, CRYOS) PLACE OF BIRTH (e.g. GOLDCREST) DATE OF BIRTH HEIGHT / WEIGHT PHYSICAL DETAILS ETC

Your race choice also sets your race perks — see the census file for base traits and the one personal perk you pick at creation.

§2 Starting XP

Characters get 100 starting XP to spend how they'd like within the following constraints.

Stats

5 XP / LEVEL

Stats have a max level of +3. Cybernetics can increase stats beyond the normal +3 cap.

Traits

FREE*

Traits themselves are free, but the stats required to take them cost 5 XP per level — a trait that requires a stat to be level 2 effectively costs 10 XP.

Cybernetics

20 XP EACH

Cybernetics cost 20 XP each, meaning 5 cybernetics = 100 XP. Choose carefully — installation is permanent.

§3 Identity Aspect Choices

1 · Choose Traits & Cybernetics — up to 10 shared slots

Characters must initially choose 10 Traits or Cybernetics. When a player selects all of their desired traits, the required Core Stats are highlighted and players must invest enough XP into sub-stats to reach those levels. Characters do not need to fill all 10 slots — they can take as many or few traits and cybernetics as they want at this stage.

2 · Spend the remainder on Stats

If the player has extra XP left over after choosing their traits/cybernetics they may spend it on any stats they want.

3 · Choose 2 Skills

Characters then choose 2 skills: 1 combat, 1 non-combat. Future skills are acquired or leveled up via Skill Shard items.

4 · Techniques come later

Characters do not choose any techniques at this time.

SLOT HELIX Traits and chrome share one spine. The Slot Helix tool visualizes how your ten shared slots wind together.

§4 Health

Total health is 40, but split into two pools.

Grit

20 · DAILY

A daily pool that represents your energy. This regenerates passively each day and losing it doesn't threaten your life. When taking damage to Grit, it is expected that a character emotes things along the lines of "narrowly avoiding an attack," "exerting themself," etc. Blood is not spilled when Grit is attacked.

Bio

20 · REAL

Your actual health. Losing this means you've been wounded and losing too much will get you killed. This takes time and medical treatment to recover. When taking damage to Bio, it is expected that a character emotes being physically injured. Blood is spilled when Bio is attacked.

Bio vs Grit

In order for your Bio to be at risk you need to lose all of your Grit first or be hit with damage that bypasses Grit. Damage that does not specify it bypasses Grit will subtract from it first, rolling any excess into Bio.
