The People

Syn City is home to humanity and three subclasses of bionic life. Each form carries a base trait by default and chooses one personal race perk at creation — the city stamps you at the factory, and the stamp doesn't change without staff approval.

§0 How Race Perks Work

Each race has a base trait and a set of three personal traits to choose from. Everyone gets the base trait by default, and you may choose one (1) additional race perk from the respective list upon creating your character.

CENSUS BUREAU NOTICE The chosen race trait cannot change after you create the character unless approved by staff. Entries marked AWAITING CALIBRATION have not yet cleared the bureau's censor — check back after the next records release.

H Humans

Humanity is ever famous for acting as the progenitor of the other races. While humans are often overshadowed by the capabilities of other races, one detail remains undeniably true: humanity is the most resilient form of sentient life. Like cockroaches, there have been many failed attempts at eradicating humans. Whether it be through nuclear war or through a deadly virus, humanity has had many close calls but has never been truly eliminated.

To compensate for their deficiencies, humans have begun to modify themselves with cybernetic implants. Implants can be installed by Cyberdocs, though they can be quite expensive — if you care about quality and safety, that is. Unlike their artificial counterparts, humans have a Cyberlimit and are susceptible to moments of madness called Cyberpsychosis if too many implants are installed at once.

Team Spirit

BASE TRAIT

Humans on the same team may link their Initiative rolls to operate together on the same turn. Any complimentary act they perform together in the same turn receives a +2 modifier.

Personal Trait — select one (1)

Relentless Determination

RACIAL TRAIT

Any time you take damage to Bio, you gain Grit equal to half your WILL, though your Grit cannot exceed its limit.

Wirewalker

RACIAL TRAIT

While under the effects of Cyberpsychosis, you do not immediately die when you reach 0 Bio. Any time you take damage while in this state, make an ENDR check with a DC equal to 20 − your BODY to keep fighting.

AWAITING CALIBRATION

A Androids

Androids are the first of three subclasses of bionic life. Only the most cutting-edge technology is used in their production, leading to their almost identical appearance to normal human life. While their blood is composed of microscopic nanites, it is still red in color. Physically harming an android would lead to wounds that appear similar to how human wounds look, however upon close inspection one might notice grid-like metallic highlights under the skin similar to a honeycomb.

Androids can be healed by both traditional medicine or a mechanic. Androids fall into two primary factions: Hybrid Androids, which support Masters' INC. and embrace their mechanical heritage, or Replicate Androids, which are favored by Hayashi and lean into their organic side.

Bio Reserves

RACIAL TRAIT

You can convert Bio to Endurance at a 1:2 ratio. For one round after you make this conversion, add +1 to any movement you make.

Nanite Surge

RACIAL TRAIT

You can expend Bio to increase all of your rolls for one round with a + modifier equal to the amount spent, up to +3 per instance.

Mimic

RACIAL TRAIT

On your turn, spend an Action + Bonus Action to observe a human target's Action or Bonus Action this round (before or after your turn). You may spend another Action + Bonus Action to perform the same act in the same manner with the same modifiers on your next turn, so long as you have the means to do so. This even allows you to mimic the sound of someone's voice, accent, mannerisms, etc.

Restorative Nanites

RACIAL TRAIT

Any time you receive a form of biology-based healing, you restore extra Bio equal to your RSIL. You may share this effect with other Androids, offering them extra Bio equal to your RSIL when you provide medical aid to them. In either case, Bio cannot exceed its limit.

B Bots

Robots are the second of the three subclasses of bionic life. They are helpful, practical, and durable. Robots are very reliable as of 2089 and their autonomous, self-contained AI cores help them understand and navigate in a still surprisingly organic world. Bot cybernetics are less elegant than those found in androids and humans. Rather than finding creative solutions to treat lack of efficiency, bots handle this aspect in a direct and practical way. Not enough hands to complete the task? Many bots simply possess more than two arms.

The greatest shortcoming of their functional, practical design is their lack of fluid emotional processing and interpretation. They are physically more durable, stronger, and larger, however their advantages over organic life fall short on the emotional spectrum. They also cannot be healed by traditional medicine, and instead require a mechanic for repairs.

Versatile Design

BASE TRAIT

Cyberware that would normally impose double Cyberload (e.g. having more than two arms) does not. Your frame's design may also be non-humanoid at Staff's discretion.

Personal Trait — select one (1)

Variable Reserves

RACIAL TRAIT

You can convert Grit into Endurance at a 2:1 ratio. Any time you take damage to Bio, you gain +1 Endurance for one round.

Static Dissipation

RACIAL TRAIT

When you receive the Overload condition, any Bots, Greasers, and Androids within Melee Range must succeed a MECH check with a DC equal to 20 − their TECH or gain the Overload condition themselves. If this perk causes 2 or more targets to become Overloaded, you immediately lose the condition.

Mechanical Superiority

RACIAL TRAIT

Your base stat maximum (before cybernetics) is level 4 instead of 3.

G Greasers

The final form of bionic life are the Greasers. Prototype robots that are heavily outdated by 2089, even when compared to humans. They're the largest and physically strongest of all humanoid life forms, however they lack advanced brain functionality and up-to-date cybernetic hardware. Their sentience is best described as "primal," though at times they have been documented as still being capable of simplistic AI understanding and communication.

Some old heaps of Greaser junk are kept around for the sole purpose of manual labor in filthy factory settings that wouldn't even be suitable for a regular Bot. Most of them are destroyed on sight, however, due to the general danger their presence tends to have in society. Greasers, as the name may imply, bleed dirty oil. They cannot be healed by traditional medicine, and instead require a mechanic for repairs.
